I saw these in a store and tried them on then went online to see if I could get them for less money. This was the best deal available. They are a great looking shoe for an Ecco. My previous experience with Eccos were casual shoes which enveloped my feet in luxurious and supple comfort. These… not so much. It’s got a very stiff leather upper and not as much padding as I expected. My foot is not wide and normal width shoes usually fit me fine but I have found these to be narrow. I am currently wearing them with thin socks and hoping they’ll break in but after about 6-8 wearings they’re not yielding. If I could I would exchange them for a wider size.

I’ve owned this line of shoe for years. My first pair finally wore out and I am very happy with the new pair. They are both comfortable and stylish, which provides wide ranging utility. I plan on continuing to replace this exact pair as needed for years to come.

    Good fit, but they’re orange-brown, May 24, 2012

Let me start by saying I absolutely love Ecco shoes. They fit my feet perfectly, are comfortable straight out of the box, and I wear a pair to work every day. I particular like the New Jersey and the Seattle. I have the New Jersey in black, both cap toe and bicycle toe.

Looking to expand my collection, I thought I’d try the New Jersey bicycle toe in Cognac color. Here on Amazon and on Ecco’s site, they look like a nice shade of light brown, tan perhaps. I ordered, and true to Amazon’s amazing distribution network they showed up yesterday right on time (just two days, and free with Prime shipping). I eagerly pulled the shoes out of the box, only to find… yech, what is that color? It’s not brown, it’s not Cognac, it’s orange! Really. Yes they are a tan-brown, but there is a noticeable orange cast to the tan-brown. Very noticeable, and not particularly attractive. There might be a few people who want orange shoes. Not me.

So, while the fit, the finish, and the style are all on par with Ecco’s other shoes this particular line has a color problem. Perhaps cheap tanning? Perhaps they mixed the dyes incorrectly for this batch? I don’t know. Just be forewarned that there is a distinct orange hue to the brown in these shoes. It’s positively strange-looking.

    So, back they go.
